Regardless of the team's current two-game winning streak, Michigan Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke still finds himself on the hot seat in regards to his job status after the 2014 NCAA college football season.
Hoke's situation is almost a reversed mirror of the particulars leading up to former Wolverines head coach Rich Rodriguez's dismissal. Rodriguez struggles to field anything close to a workable defense, while the offense he employed at least had its successes.
For Hoke, the offense has been the glaring weakness while defensive coordinator Greg Mattison's defense has been doing its job. Taking that into account, is there a scenario where Mattison is retained if Hoke is axed?
In Phil Callihan of Bleacher Report's eyes, "if Hoke is dismissed, Mattison’s decision to stay with the program will depend on who takes over and the rationale used to determine Hoke’s fate."
Mattison has remained intensely loyal through thick and thin, so it won't be a surprise if a Hoke dismissal doesn't sit well with him. However, it is likely up to the future leadership (i.e athletic director) whether the future in Ann Arbor will have Mattison still on the sidelines.
