Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh‘s lead off-field lieutenant Jim Minick, Michigan's associate athletics director for football, was arrested over the weekend for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Minick was arrested around 2:30 Saturday morning after police responded to a single-car crash in Pittsfield Township.
He orginially told police that a hit-and-run forced him into a ditch, but police suspected he had been drinking. Minick refused a breathalyzer, prompting police to draw blood and arrested him. The arrest charges are pending the results of the toxicology report.
After learning of the incidenent, Harbaugh suspended Minick indefinitely.
“Jim Minick made a regrettable decision last week and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Jim makes no excuses, regrets this decision and understands the consequences for his actions,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “Due to the serious nature of this event, Jim Minick has been suspended indefinitely and we ask for your understanding while we address the situation. I’m not going to make any excuses. I’ll face the consequences of my actions. I regret the difficult position in which this has put my family and my employer.”
