Michigan football appears close to a coup on the defensive coordinator front, with coveted Florida Gators defensive coordinator DJ Durkin likely to join his old boss, Jim Harbaugh, on the sidelines in Ann Arbor.
Here's Steve Lorenz of Wolverine247 with the latest on Durkin's status:
Nothing new in that area necessarily, and we expect Durkin to eventually become the defensive coordinator of the Harbaugh staff. One extra reason to feel comfortable about it? There's no indication that LSU has even reached out to Durkin after John Chavis took the defensive coordinator job at Texas A&M earlier this week. If schools with openings aren't even trying, that's usually a relatively strong indicator that things are wrapped up in some capacity.
Lorenz adds that a decision should be expected within "the next 48 hours or so," as it's unlikely that Durkin or the Michigan Wolverines will drag this process out much longer.
The 36-year-0ld coached under Jim Harbaugh from 2007-09 at Stanford, serving as the program's defensive ends coach and special teams coordinator.
Durkin served as the Gators' interim coach for their Birmingham Bowl matchup against the East Carolina Pirates - a game Florida won 28-20.
