The world of Michigan football is buzzing right now over the amount of recruiting talent that has made its way to Ann Arbor this weekend. Within a very short span, Jim Harbaugh and his staff could alter the course of the program's future for the better. How so? Here's An Inside Look At The Biggest Recruiting Visit Weekend Of 2015.
Wolverines in the lead for Khalid Kareem?
The Michigan Wolverines have been a contender for four-star Farmington defensive end Khalid Kareem since the opening of his recruitment, but it looks like the program has solidified his foothold as a favorite to land his pledge following an all-around fantastic visit to Ann Arbor on Friday.
Khalid came to campus with his father who was reportedly blown away by the academic side of things at the university. That's a HUGE step for Michigan, as one of the reasons why he was said to be unsure about UM was his parents' unfamiliarity with the education scope at the university.
From an on-field perspective, the Wolverines have made it clear that they want Kareem at defensive end, but his versatility could lead to his usage as a potential BUCK linebacker as well. Khalid and his father were reportedly impressed with the versatility and dynamicism of new defensive coordinator DJ Durkin's defensive schemes, and they came away feeling good about Khalid's prospects under Durkin's watch.
Michigan has, at the very least, jumped into Kareem's top four after this visit, with a stop at Notre Dame this summer the only concrete obligation the Wolverines have to contend with so far.
What's the deal with Ben Bredeson?
Five-star Hartland (WI) Arrowhead offensive lineman Ben Bredeson received a very similar tour of campus and Ann Arbor as the aforementioned Kareem, which is reportedly just what those in Bredeson's camp were looking for out of this visit.
Bredeson has already developed good relationships with some of the program's current players through his brother's presence on the baseball team, so this visit was more about getting a feel for just what each day would look like for him on campus at UM.
The X-factor here is Greg Mattison. Mattison is Bredeson's primary recruiter and has aided the transition from the Hoke staff which opened Bredeson's recruitment and the new Jim Harbaugh/Tim Drevno regime.
While we don't have any concrete reaction from Bredeson to report as of yet, all indications see to point to the Wolverines currying favor with the heavy Wisconsin lean.
Michigan shoots to the top of Kiante Enis' list
Winchester (IN) running back Kiante Enis made his first trip to Ann Arbor on Saturday, and he was beyond impressed with what he saw out of the campus and the football program in general.
“It was fantastic,” the three-star standout said, via 247Sports.
“Just everything. Just the vibe I got from it, especially the coaching staff, they did a great job presenting the campus, the facilities, everything to us.
“I learned a lot today. Just the tradition and all the academic benefits and being a student, not just a football player but a student at Michigan.”
Ranked by 247Sports as the #36 running back in the Class of 2016 and the #7 prospect in the state of Indiana, Enis says that Michigan has taken lead over other suitors such as Big Ten rivals Indiana and Michigan State.
“They pretty much shot to the top,” Enis said.
Enis made the journey to Ann Arbor with his coach Mike Jones.
“Michigan is special,” Jones said. “That’s an impressive deal. He’s going to win. They’re going to win. They have the academic thing set up perfectly for their football players to be successful in the classroom. Just a really, really positive atmosphere. And the energy, there is so much energy around the program.”
UM holding off on Chris Evans because of Enis?
It appears that Michigan is sure enough about their chances of landing Kiante Enis that they're holding off on extending an offer to four-star Indianapolis halfback Chris Evans.
It's unlikely that Michigan will take both players, but there's still an outside shot that the Harbaugh staff would make room for a runner of Evans' caliber regardless of how the pieces fall with Enis.
Either way, we expect some clarity to come out of all of this within the next week or so.
