Earlier in the week, our very own Mack Ferguson reported that San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbuagh will be the next head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, barring a last-minute change of heart.
While the smart money is on Jim Harbaugh returning to his alma mater, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora indicates that the Wolverines have plenty of other options within NFL bounds if he indeed changes his mind:
Michigan has maintained a desire to land Harbaugh's brother, John, as well, sources said, but the Ravens coach has made it clear he has no interest in leaving Baltimore. Other NFL coaches on the school's radar include New Orleans' Sean Payton, Buffalo's Doug Marrone and Dallas' Jason Garrett (who is expected to sign an extension with the Cowboys shortly after the season.)
With Jim Harbaugh's situation with the San Francisco 49ers having reached its breaking point weeks ago per several sources close to the situation, Ann Arbor appears to be at the top of Harbaugh's list for his next coaching stop.
However, if things change for some reason, there are plenty of other NFL fish swimming in the sea.
