Michigan State jumped on Michigan from the opening whistle, scoring on their first drive and setting the tone for the rest of the game. The Wolverines defense only get the Spartans score one more time in the half, but MSU still led 14-3 at the break.
The game stayed close until Michigan State broke it open in the third quarter, returning an interception for a touchdown and completing a 70 yard touchdown pass in a two minute span to put the game out of reach.
Turning Point: Michigan had struggled all game, but they were only down 14-3 in the second quarter when quarterback Devin Gardner tried to throw the ball to a receiver in between four Michigan State defenders. R.J. Williamson picked it off for the Spartans and ran it back 29 yards for the touchdown, officially breaking the game open.
Key Stat: Aside from the Wolverines gaining 186 total yards in the game, they finally scored their first touchdown against the Spartans since 2011 in garbage time late in the fourth quarter.
Michigan State MVP: RB Jeremy Langford has been the Spartans' workhorse over the past year and half, and he didn't disappoint this afternoon. He ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries, making it 13 straight games he's rushed for over 100 yards.
Michigan MVP: Michigan's offense was atrocious once again, but they stayed in this game because of how well their defense played. They just kept getting put in bad positions because their offense couldn't do anything.
What’s Next? Michigan State has a bye week to prepare for their biggest game of the season against Ohio State on November 8, while Michigan will try and find some way to get back on track with a home contest against Indiana next weekend.
