Michigan took on the Miami RedHawks trying to get back on track after a disappointing loss to Notre Dame...and the Wolverines didn't waste any time setting the tone.
Starting Hot: After a nervy first drive that included a recovered fumble and a near-interception, the Wolverines put three points on the board after a Matt Wile 29-yarder. Those nerves appeared to settle, though, when Jourdan Lewis intercepted Miami QB Andrew Hendrix on the next drive. Devin Gardner quickly found Amara Darboh for a 17-yard TD strike (Darboh's first touchdown as a Wolverine) to put Michigan up 10-0.
Ball Security: After nearly losing a fumble on the first drive, the Wolverines coughed one up early in the second. While it looked like Amara Darboh may have been down before the ball came out after catching a pass deep in Miami territory, the referees maintained that the fumble came first, canceling out what had looked like a promising drive. After getting the ball back, a tipped pass on Michigan's next drive was intercepted, setting up a Miami field goal.
The ensuing kickoff was then fumbled by Michigan's Wyatt Shallman, setting up Miami inside the Wolverines' 25. The RedHawks, who last won a college football game in October 2012, tied things up at 10-10.
Back to Basics: After Miami tied things up, the Wolverines were finally able to get their offense back in gear - RB Derrick Green picked up 49 yards in four plays, ending with a one-yard TD run to put Michigan back in front, 17-10.
Top Performers:
Michigan: RB Derrick Green - after a rough game against Notre Dame, Green bounced back with an 83-yard first half. Despite Michigan's offensive miscues, Green looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.
Miami (OH): QB Andrew Hendrix - the former Notre Dame transfer looked poised in the pocket, ending the first half 7/15 with a TD and an INT.
