I'd like you to join me on my weekly check of NCAA football futures. Every week I peruse the odds to win 2012 BCS national championship on bodog.com. Well let's see what we have here:
Alabama 2-1 - Well okay, this one makes sense. Cheer pieces looking good and a passionate fanbase to boot.
Oklahoma - 7/2 - Undefeated, check. Heisman candidate QB, check. QB can also throw over a building, check.
LSU - 9/2 - I can't watch this video without thinking that he really doesn't know that the rest of the world believes he is a moron. I can't also help but think that as he stitches his suit made of $100 bills and parades around downtown Baton Rouge, he ceases to care what people think.
Wisconsin - 7/1 - An undefeated Badger team will get a title shot, so 7/1 seems like reasonable odds.
Boise State - I'm not a Boise State hater, but I also can also feel a "we still remember you lost to Nevada last year," vibe coming from voters this year. There's a great chance they run the table and a lot less great chance they finish #1 or #2 in the BCS standings.
Clemson - 12/1 - Good ACC teams are genetically pre-disposed to lose any games that would confirm them as legitimate, inevitably making their BCS games the most unwatchable of the bunch. The Tigs look good enough early for me to suspend my 80 percent of my disbelief, but a one-loss SEC team is sure to jump Clemson, even if they do the unthinkable and go undefeated.
Stanford - 12/1 - Their QB can do this and I don't know if that means they'll win anything, but it's pretty cool:
Oklahoma State - 15/1 - Finally the money that T. Boone Pickens spent to create an automoton ginger QB capable of making Oklahoma State relevant has paid off(adorable).
Michigan - 20/1 - Well these seems about right, the team is 5-0.....WAIT, WHAAAAAAAAATTTT!!!!!!! Las Vegas, den of sin and inequity has given your fighting, scrapping, above average defense playing Wolverines an ~5% chance of winning the BCS National Championship. Brady Hoke obviously disagrees, but this is still some wonderful news. As much as we hate them and the money that they take from us, Las Vegas sports books are in the business of being correct about their lines/over/under/futures, etc.
Of course, a 1 in 20 chance of beating Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship and then beating Alabama/LSU in the BCS championship game does exactly make us seem like a top tier program. We, as Wolverines, are still a ways from where we'd like to be, but it's nice to see some progress that isn't tempered "yeah you're okay, but you're D-Coordinate still sleeps with a stuffed water-dwelling mammal."
