The wait is over, Michigan fans: during a Tuesday afternoon meeting in Ann Arbor, interim Athletic Director Jim Hackett informed Brady Hoke he would not return as head football coach in 2015.
Hoke finishes his Michigan tenure with a final record of 31-20. While his time with Michigan started on a high note with an 11-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win in 2011, the Wolverines did successively worse in each of his four seasons in charge. The Wolverines went 8-5 in 2012, 7-6 in 2013 and 5-7 in 2014.
Michigan will now turn to the search for their next head football coach, but the road ahead is unclear. Primary target Jim Harbaugh would reportedly prefer to stay in the NFL, and no home run hires are immediately apparent.
