Four-star defensive end Luiji Vilain (Alexandria, VA) gave a verbal commitment to the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon. Vilain picked the Wolverines over offers from Florida and Alabama.
“To be a Wolverine it means excellence,” Vilain said, via 247sports. “Just a great school academically and just a great football program. That’s all I can think about when I think about Michigan. I think about excellence.
“Honestly it felt right from the start. First of all it’s a great school academically. It’s a great football team. I made a connection with the coaching staff. Coach (Greg) Mattison is a really good guy. My mother spoke with the coaching staffs that were recruiting me and she felt Michigan was the best too.”
Vilain is the 14th commit in Michigan's 2017 class, and he says he plans to help the Wolverines land some of their other top targets before National Signing Day.
“Hopefully we can get Donovan Peoples-Jones,” Vilain said. “Our class is really good. I’ve been in contact with 2017 recruits like Donovan, Ambry Thomas, Jaylen Kelly-Powell. I want to get Isaiah Wilson too.”
The 6'4", 240-pounder is ranked as the No. 8 weak-side defensive end and No. 102 overall prospect in the country.
