There are very few guarantees when it comes to the game of football, but when it comes to the #12 Michigan Wolverines' upcoming rivalry game at home against the #7 Michigan State Spartans this week, we've found an exception to the rule. Here's 3 Reasons Why Michigan Is GUARANTEED To Beat Michigan State.
1. A Defense For The Ages
Michigan State has been fine on offense all year, but not exactly a high-wire act considering they've averaged 30.8 points per game against the likes of Oregon's awful defense, Purdue and Rutgers. The Spartans run into DJ Durkin's Wolverines defense which has posted three shutouts in a row -- the first FBS team to do so since the Kansas State Wildcats back in 1995. MSU doesn't have the offensive arsenal capable of pushing Michigan's swarming D onto its heels, Connor Cook or not.
2. Offensive Line
If you watched Michigan's loss to Utah in Week 1, you probably thought the offensive line was destined to flounder after an absolutely uninspiring performance. Just five weeks later, the unit has taken a near-complete 180. Michigan's running game is averaging nearly five yards per carry and the team's running backs are only getting tackled for a loss around four times per game. With the O-line humming along, Michigan will be able to control the clock and limit the amount of opportunities MSU has to fire back.
3. Jim Harbaugh
There's no way Jim Harbaugh allows this historic UM roll to end at home to rival Michigan State. We're not saying that he's fully capable of altering what happens in-game from the sideline, but we do know that every last Wolverines player will have their ears pinned back thanks to his fiery leadership style. The Spartans have been uninspiring during their 6-0 start. Michigan is playing like a team possessed. Harbaugh's got these guys playing up to their capabilities (and above them, to be frank), and that's only going to continue on Saturday.
