3 Reasons Why Michigan State Will Always Be Michigan’s Little Brother In Football

Isn't it funny how a few off years for a football program can make the casual fan forget about, you know, actual history? For those Michigan State Spartans fans out there who feel that Sparty has passed up the Michigan Wolverines for good, we've got a reality check for you. Here's 3 Reasons Why Michigan State Will Always Be Michigan’s Little Brother In Football.

1. Eleven Is Greater Than Six

We're not sure just how good the math programs over in East Lansing are, but we're pretty sure that Spartans fans can wrap their heads around the fact that Michigan's 11 claimed national championships are almost double that of Michigan State's six.

At this rate, even if Michigan decided to quit playing football in favor of competitive ceramics or something, it would take Michigan State until 2091 to match UM's eleven banners.

2. Where's Your Heisman At, MSU?

Tom Harmon (1940), Desmond Howard (1991) and Charles Woodson (1997) have all brought modern sports' most coveted individual prize home to Ann Arbor.

Michigan State? Umm...their mascot has a hat sewn to the top of his suit.

So, there's that...

3. Where Would You Rather Play?

Even after the trials and tribulations of the Brady Hoke era, we're willing to bet you two steak dinners that 80% or more of prep school athletes around the country would select the Wolverines over the Spartans based on program recognition alone.

It's like those Pepsi/Coke mall taste tests of the 1990s. Except, in this instance, Michigan is Pepsi and Michigan State is prune juice that's been left out on the windowsill for a week.
