Facing the potential of having his retirement benefits stripped, William Strampel has resigned from the Michigan State University faculty, ending the university's efforts to revoke his tenure, MSU announced Friday.
Strampel, the former dean of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and former boss of convicted sex offender Larry Nassar, retired effective June 30 under an agreement signed July 5.
Strampel, 70, is facing felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with alleged sexual harassment of students and two additional misdemeanors related to his supervision of Nassar, a longtime MSU sports medicine doctor.
The retirement agreement bars Strampel from receiving emeritus status, which is a traditional honor for retiring faculty.
