The most iconic field goal attempt of Mark Dantonio’s career at Michigan State happened nine years ago today.
It was fourth-and-14 when MSU lined up for a 46-yard kick. The Spartans trailed by three in overtime to Notre Dame.
Aaron Bates, MSU’s punter who was doubling as the holder, called for the snap. As soon as he caught the football he rose and looked downfield.
