What can Michigan State football fix first: Defensive struggles or lack of running game?

EAST LANSING — Looking back at Michigan State football’s 34-7 loss to Minnesota and looking ahead to the Spartans’ road game Saturday at Maryland:

Three things we learned

Deep troubles: For the second straight game, the Spartans’ defense gave up more than 500 yards to its opponent. Minnesota exploited MSU’s secondary issues, as quarterback Tanner Morgan opened up the passing offense early and finished with 268 yards and three touchdowns with a tidy 23 of 26 passing line, and Mohamed Ibrahim delivered body blow after body blow to a front seven missing Jacob Slade and Jeff Pietrowski to finish with 103 rushing yards.
