EAST LANSING — Minutes after Michigan State’s Holiday Bowl victory in San Diego, a jubilant Mark Dantonio was handed a large cardboard box with a sheet cake inside.
In green frosting, the writing on the cake read: “100.”
The number represented Dantonio’s 100th victory as head coach of the Spartans, who had just dismantled Washington State to cap a turnaround 10-win season.
