The Spartans have played 13 true freshmen this season, which is a record during coach Mark Dantonio's 11 years leading in the program. Their contributions have been significant in No. 16 Michigan State (9-3, 7-2 Big Ten) flipping last year's 3-9 record heading into Thursday's Holiday Bowl (9 p.m. EST, FS1) against No. 18 Washington State (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12) in San Diego.
"They've contributed a ton," Michigan State redshirt sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke said of the freshmen.
