KALAMAZOO, MI - Michigan State handed Western Michigan its second consecutive loss with a 1-0 decision in a showdown between two of the nation's top teams Wednesday at the WMU Soccer Complex in front of a record crowd of 3,422.
MSU's Ryan Sierakowski scored the game's lone goal in the 50th minute on an assist from fellow junior Connor Corrigan.
Ranked No. 1 in the men's soccer RPI and No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, Michigan State improves to 9-1-1, while WMU, the No. 11 team in the RPI poll and No. 12 in the Coaches, falls to 9-2-1.
