EAST LANSING -- Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said he was "saddened" to find out on Tuesday that one of his most prominent former players has been charged with sexual assault.
Mateen Cleaves was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor's office with unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration, second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The charges stem from an alleged incident following a charity golf outing near Flint in September.
Izzo, speaking briefly on the matter after his team's practice Tuesday, said he knew little about the situation but that he was "disappointed and bummed out and everything else.
