Spartans bounce back, tame Wildcats to give Mark Dantonio record win

Evanston, Ill. — Early this week, Mark Dantonio said his team would respond.

In fact, the Michigan State coach promised it.

The Spartans didn’t make their coach look bad as Brian Lewerke threw for three touchdown passes and Michigan State beat Northwestern, 31-10, Saturday in front of 40,114 at Ryan Field. The victory ended a three-game skid to the Wildcats and provides a winning start as Michigan State (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) begins a stretch of three road games in four weeks.

The win was also No. 110 for Dantonio at Michigan State, making him the winningest coach in program history.
