Fifty years ago during the cold third week of November 1966, Clinton Jones walked by publications, grabbed any clips previewing the matchup between No. 2 MSU football and No.1 Notre Dame and looked for his name.
If he found it, he took a copy, stowed it away and went on with his business. No fleeting glance at a prediction, no post practice clip, none. No need to pay attention to the external pressures written in the pages.
“I played the game, what else did I need to know?” Jones said recently recalling the hype of the game.
