UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Payton Thorne showed promise in his first career college start, but Michigan State football fell apart in the second half of a 39-24 loss at Penn State on Saturday.
Thorne threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to give MSU a 21-10 lead, but the Spartans did not find traction in the second half.
Defensively, they were torched in the third and fourth quarters, and special teams allowed an 81-yard punt return touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the Nittany Lions a 15-point cushion.
