No 3-peat, MSU falls to Minnesota in Big Ten tournament

Washington – They say it’s hard to beat a team three times in one season, and that proved to be true on Friday as fourth-seeded Minnesota beat No. 5 Michigan State, 63-58, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament at the Verizon Center.

The Spartans swept the regular-season series from the Golden Gophers but struggled offensively and fell short of their seventh straight semifinal appearance. Minnesota advances to take on Michigan, which beat top-seeded Purdue in the early game.

After executing well offensively in a win over Penn State on Thursday, the Spartans (19-14) struggled to make shots against the Gophers.
