No. 1 Michigan State beats Northeastern, 78-58

BOSTON – Let the record show that the No. 1 team in the nation was indeed pushed at the oldest active college basketball arena in the nation, Tom Izzo’s Spartans outworked early by Northeastern and trailing midway through the first half.

Let it also show that Izzo’s 21st team is now tied with his sixth, the 2000-01 Spartans, for the best start in school history, after improving to 12-0 with a 78-58 win at legendary Matthews Arena. And that Izzo had his full roster available for the first time this season and needed it.

Sold out for the first time since a Duke visit in 1995, Matthews provided a rocking backdrop for MSU’s first true road game of the season.
