EAST LANSING – Travis Walsh grew up with two favorite schools – Michigan State and the University of Maine.
So it was pretty certain that if Walsh developed into a solid hockey player and good enough to play in college, he was either going to be Spartan or Black Bear.
Walsh’s father, Shawn, was the legendary Maine coach who built the Black Bears into a national power, winning two NCAA championships and reaching the Frozen Four seven times.
Travis’ grandfather, Ron Mason, of course, was pretty famous, too.
