EAST LANSING – Series sweeps in college hockey are tough enough even when the team that has won the first night is playing well.
But when you’re lethargic, flat and the compete level is low, it’s almost impossible to earn back-to-back victories.
That was the scenario for Michigan State this weekend.
An OK, spirited performance in a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin on Friday had the Spartans eager to close out the series with another win on Saturday and a much-needed sweep.
But for whatever reason, MSU had no energy, no zip and two periods of erratic play led to a disappointing 3-0 loss in front of an announced crowd of 5,963 at Munn Arena.
