Neil’s Notebook: Spartans Find a Way to Slip Past Badgers

MADISON, Wis. – Sometimes a team plays a very good game and still loses. Sometimes a team plays not very well and still finds a way to win.

On Friday night at the Kohl Center, Michigan State did not come close to playing one of its best games of the season, but the Spartans still managed to outduel Wisconsin in a Big Ten series opener.

After losing a 3-1 lead and finding themselves tied, 3-3 early in the third period, Matt DeBlouw’s goal with 5:38 left in the third period gave the Spartans a 4-3 victory over the sixth-place Badgers

“I see it as a positive because we’ve played well in some games and well enough to win and didn’t end up winning, but tonight it was a sloppy effort overall.
