EAST LANSING – The effort was there. The compete level was very good.
But the end result wasn’t.
A strong performance by Michigan State on Friday night at Munn Arena just wasn’t good enough as the Spartans fell to Minnesota, 4-2, in the opening game of a Big Ten series.
In a very winnable game – it was 2-2 with eight minutes left in the third period – the Spartans failed to capitalize on several good scoring opportunities and the first-place Gophers did.
“We didn’t make enough plays to win the game,” Spartans coach Tom Anastos said.
