MADISON, Wis. – Michigan State’s hopes for a third-period rally and come-from-behind victory on Saturday ended quickly.
Just 2 minutes and 18 seconds after the start of the period, the Spartans saw a 2-1 deficit and winnable game turn into a 4-1 lead for Wisconsin, pretty much wiping out their quest for a weekend sweep of the Big Ten series.
The Badgers, who broke a 1-1 tie with shorthanded, breakaway goal late in the second period, took control of the game with two goals in 42 seconds – at 1:36 and 2:18 of the final period.
