UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – It wasn’t as sweet as a victory. But it was a lot better than a heartbreaking overtime defeat.
Michigan State came within 33.6 seconds of defeating Penn State here Saturday, but had to settle for a 2-2 tie after the Nittany Lions, with their goaltender pulled for a sixth attacker, scored at 19:26 to send it into overtime.
The Spartans had to survive a Penn State power play for the final 1:43 of overtime before earning the tie in the Big Ten series finale in front of a sellout crowd of 5,824 at Pegula Ice Arena.
