DETROIT – Michigan State’s seniors have a bit of an odd streak going in the Great Lakes Invitational.
In three seasons, they have never lost in a GLI semifinal.
Unfortunately, two of those games ended in ties and a shootout was used to determine which team would advance to the GLI title game. And the Spartans lost shootouts against Western Michigan in 2013 and Michigan Tech in 2014 and were relegated to play in the third-place game.
MSU had better luck last season, defeating Ferris State 2-0 in the semifinals. But the Spartans’ title bid fell short as they lost to Michigan, 2-1, in the championship game.
