EAST LANSING – It’s not often Michigan State goes up against perennial hockey powerhouse Minnesota when the Golden Gophers are not ranked in the top 10 or 15 in the polls and have an overall record that’s below .500.
But that’s the case this weekend as the Spartans and Gophers meet up in a Big Ten series at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.
It’s the first time Minnesota (9-10 overall, 4-2 Big Ten) has played MSU (5-15, 1-5-0) with a losing record since 2009-10 when the Gophers were 4-8-1 on Nov. 28, 2009.
