Neil's Notebook: A Pair of Third Period Goals Push PSU Past Spartans

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – There were several aspects to Michigan State’s game against the No. 4 team in the nation that were very positive.

• The Spartans competed at a much higher level than they did last weekend in their two losses at Wisconsin.

• MSU won the special teams battles, scoring one power-play goal, giving up none and putting the puck in the net while killing a penalty.

• The Spartans developed some quality 5-on-5 scoring chances late in the second period and during a few stretches in the third.
