LANSING, MI - In what he says was the most difficult negotiation of his career, MSU Special Counsel Robert Young said plaintiffs' attorneys were initially asking for a settlement amount that topped $1 billion.
"That's what the plaintiffs certainly wanted. They were over a billion. But it was mediated, and this was, as I said I think this was fair and equitable. It's higher than I wanted but, well, that's part of the process of mediating," Young said in an interview Thursday.
The university faced lawsuits from more than 300 of Nassar's victims. Nassar for nearly two decades sexually assaulted women and girls, often under the guise of medical treatment.
