An attorney for former Michigan State University women's gymnastics coach Kathie Klages is suggesting the timing of the arraignment was suspect.
Takura Nyamfukudza, who represented Klages during her Thursday morning arraignment proceedings, said the timing of the charges was "very interesting" considering the proximity to the general election in November. Attorney General Bill Schuette, whose office is handling the case, is currently running for governor.
"I think for the AG, Larry Nassar and anyone associated to him is the gift that keeps on giving," he said.
Attorney General spokesperson Andrea Bitely said politics has nothing to do with it.
