MSU’s Valentine is AP Big Ten player of the year

Michigan State senior Denzel Valentine is the Associated Press Big Ten player of the year and one of three unanimous choices for the all-conference first team.

Indiana guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell and Iowa forward Jarrod Uthoff also were named to the first team on every ballot in voting by media members who cover the Big Ten. The other first-team picks are Wisconsin forward Nigel Hayes and Purdue center A.J. Hammons.

Valentine finished the regular season first in the conference in scoring and assists and as the top rebounding guard.

Valentine's teammates, guard Bryn Forbes and Matt Costello, were named to the second team.
