EAST LANSING – The freedom of being at college hit two of Michigan State’s newest football players last week as they lay in their dormitory room around 10 p.m.
Cam Chambers called across the room to Messiah deWeaver: You up?
DeWeaver was. A college campus and its surrounding town beckoned.
Chambers, a receiver from Sicklerville, N.J., suggested they walk across the street from Case Hall to the MSU football building to get in some work.
“He’s like, ‘You’re playing,’ ” Chambers said of the response of deWeaver, a quarterback from Huber Heights, Ohio. “ ‘Let’s go.
