MSU's Demetrious Cox says he was 'falsely accused' of assault

EAST LANSING — Demetrious Cox, a starting defensive back and team captain for the Michigan State University football team, was arrested last week and cited for a misdemeanor assault.

Head coach Mark Dantonio said last week that Cox did not play in Saturday's game against Penn State because he violated team rules.

Court records indicate Cox was issued a citation for assault by East Lansing police at 3 a.m. Thursday in downtown East Lansing near the intersection of Albert Avenue and Grove Street. He has not been formally charged and has 10 days from the offense to appear in 54B District Court, where he will be formally arraigned.
