ERIE, Pa. – Jennifer Evans and her son Delton Williams cried over the phone to each other when he tried to explain to her why he bought a handgun, and they cried again when they found out the price of staying with the Michigan State football program.
Williams' arrest for flashing that Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol in a road-rage incident in March jeopardized his reputation and career, and Mark Dantonio's conditions for return mean the family will need to come up with nearly $40,000 for tuition in the 2015-16 school year.
But those are just problems.
