EAST LANSING -- Connor Cook not being named one of Michigan State’s team captains a year ago turned into a matter of national importance as it dogged him throughout the season and into the NFL draft.
But Tyler O’Connor won’t have to worry about his predecessor’s predicament.
O’Connor became the Spartans’ first quarterback to be named a captain since Andrew Maxwell in 2012. Fellow fifth-year seniors Riley Bullough and Demetrious Cox will join O’Connor in the leadership triumvirate that was announced at the end of today's practice, as MSU wrapped up its preseason camp.
“I don’t think, necessarily, that it has to come with the quarterback position,” said O’Connor, whom coach Mark Dantonio this week anointed the starter for the Spartans’ Sept.
