MSU LB Ed Davis suffers season-ending knee injury

EAST LANSING -- The first major adversity of Michigan State's 2015 football season has arrived, weeks before the season opener -- senior linebacker Ed Davis has been lost for the season with a knee injury.

MSU tweeted the news tonight, reporting that Davis suffered the injury midway through today's practice and that a post-practice MRI confirmed he will require surgery. The fifth-year senior, an All-Big Ten honorable mention pick as a junior, was expected to be one of the Spartans' top playmakers and an All-America candidate in 2015.

"We're so disappointed for Ed Davis, and his presence in the lineup will be missed," MSU coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement of the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Detroit Southeastern product.
