Michigan State basketball started its 2018 class with a verbal commitment from Thomas Kithier on Thursday afternoon.
The 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward from Macomb Dakota announced his decision via Twitter.
A three-star prospect, Kithier held scholarship offers from DePaul, Oakland and Rice, among others, according to 247Sports.
Kithier is MSU basketball's first commitment since incoming freshman Miles Bridges gave his verbal pledge last fall. Kithier is the first 2018 commit for the Spartans, who do not yet have any commitments in the 2017 class.
247Sports ranks Kithier the No. 4 prospect in the state of Michigan in 2018.
