Michigan State star receiver Kirk Gibson, who went on to a MLB career mostly with the Detroit Tigers, has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, it was announced Monday.
Gibson, 59, now a broadcaster for the Tigers, is the ninth MSU player to make the Hall of Fame.
Gibson finished his Spartan career in 1978 as the school leader in career receptions (112), touchdown receptions (24) and receiving yards (2,347). He still holds the MSU record for career receiving average at 21.0 yards.
In 1978, Gibson had 42 receptions for a team-high 806 yards and was earned All-American honors.
