East Lansing — Michigan State came one 3-pointer short of matching a program record in its victory over Northwestern on Thursday.
On Sunday night against Rutgers, the Spartans got that extra 3-pointer in a 96-62 blowout of the Scarlet Knights at Breslin Center.
No. 12 Michigan State (19-4, 6-4 Big Ten) hit 17 of 32 3-pointers, matching the 17 it made in 2014 against Purdue. Denzel Valentine made six and scored 20 for the Spartans while Bryn Forbes also made six — all in the first half — to score 18. Eron Harris added three 3-pointers and scored 14 points while Alvin Ellis and Matt McQuaid each had a 3-pointer.
