EAST LANSING -- For the fourth time in a college basketball regular season, the Michigan State men's basketball team is No. 1 in the rankings.
The Spartans moved up from No. 3 to No. 1 today in the Associated Press poll, getting 62 of 65 first-place votes. The last MSU team to top the rankings was Tom Izzo's 2013-14 team, in December 2013. Izzo's 2000-01 team also spent some time at No. 1, as did the 1978-79 MSU team that won the national title under Jud Heathcote.
MSU also is No. 1 in the USA TODAY coaches poll.
