EAST LANSING — Tom Izzo isn’t ready to retire, even if the coaching world around him is rapidly changing.
New rules with one-time, penalty-free transfers, the NCAA’s transfer portal and name, image and likeness have almost turned college sports into the wild west. And one by one, members of the old guard are leaving — first Oklahoma’s Lon Kruger, then North Carolina’s Roy Williams announced their retirements; Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski became the latest, though he plans to stay for one more season.
That leaves Izzo among the last of his generation standing, and he said Wednesday he doesn’t plan to ride off into the sunset soon.
