Matt Coghlin already owns a program record and is also gaining national recognition.
The Michigan State redshirt sophomore on Thursday was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 20 and a winner will be named on Dec. 6. The award has been presented annually since 1992 and Michigan State has never had a winner.
Coghlin is 11-for-12 on field goals this season, ranks fifth in the nation in percentage made (91.7) and his only miss came on a block. He extended his program record streak of consecutive made field goals to 18 in last week's win against Purdue before he had a kick blocked.
