EAST LANSING — Mark Dantonio made the right decision — two months too late.
Dantonio stepped down as Michigan State football coach Tuesday afternoon, ending a great career, two weeks after qualifying for a $4.3 million retention bonus.
I have no problem with the man getting paid. He deserves all of it.
But the timing was awful. It put the school in a precarious position.
Dantonio should have made this announcement at the end of the regular season.
