Michigan State senior quarterback Connor Cook was named the winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Tuesday as the country’s top college quarterback.
The award, presented since 1987, goes to a senior or fourth-year junior who is on schedule to graduate with their class.
Cook has thrown for 2,921 yards and 24 touchdowns in leading the Spartans (12-1) to a Big Ten title and No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff, where they will face No. 2 seed Alabama (12-1) in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
Cook beat out a group of finalists that includes TCU’s Trevone Boykin, USC’s Cody Kessler, Memphis’ Paxton Lynch and Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott.
