The Big Ten is still hoping to play basketball in 2020. For now.
Michigan State athletic director Bill Beekman on Thursday said the potential for starting the season on time in November remains a possibility, even as the Pac-12, Ivy League and other smaller Division I conferences have announced they will not hold any competitions until 2021.
“We have two sports to generate revenue, football and men's basketball. And so if we have the ability to play sports to generate revenue, we absolutely will,” Beekman said on a video call with reporters. “I think that I'm very hopeful that we'll play football in the spring, that will play basketball.
